This is sort of in the spirit of Mark Pilgrim's "setting up windows to work" post. It's a list of everything I have to do on my new Macbook Air to make it function properly. This list starts from when I am presented with a clean OSX Desktop.
- open safari, find, download, and install chrome
setup iChat, find, download and install chax
enable virtual desktops (spaces), configure sane keyboard shortcuts for spaces & expose
- cmd-w for expose, cmd-e for spaces, cmd-d for desktop
- remap some more keyboard shortcuts:
"Close Window" -> cmd-4
"Close Tab" -> cmd-4
download & install skype for osx
download & install quicksilver
download & install xcode (this was broken from the Mac Developer portal, but working from iOS Developer portal.. nice)
- copy fonts from another machine, since Menlo and Monaco are rubbish
install macvim
install homebrew
- brew install python
- brew install pip
- pip install virtualenv mercurial virtualenvwrapper
cd ~ && hg init && hg pull -u http://bitbucket.org/jmoiron/dotfiles/
- spend an hour trying to make Terminal.app's keybindings not suck, give up
set home to \033OH
set end to \033Of
- .inputrc doesn't seem to work, even if INPUTRC is set; maybe requires a login/out?
install afloat
- brew install --client-only mysql
- brew install git
install menumeters
.
